How to make a perfect "Masala Kadak Indian Style Chai" at Home

Masala Chai, often simply referred to as “chai”, originated in India as a delicious combination of sweet and spicy tea with boiled milk. In recent years, chai has gained tremendous popularity in United States, Australia and Europe as a trendy favorite in coffee shops and as a popular at-home treat.

In India, chai is made by boiling tea powder in water along with the mixture of herbs and spices and at the end adding milk for the creamy texture.

The love of tea in India is tremendous and growing exponentially, which has given birth to many successful tea houses.

According to the Tea Board, India has consumed around 1.145 million kg of tea in 2022-21 and in 2020-21 it was 1,116 million kg of tea.

  • Tea Powder
  • Water
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Sliced Ginger (Adrak)
  • Cloves (Laung)
  • Cinnamon (Dalchini)
  • Nutmeg (Jaefal)
  • Black Pepper (Kalle Mirch)
  • Cardamom (Elicahi)

Step by Step Process to Make Perfect Chai

Step 1: Take Sauce Pan and 1.5 cups of water into it. And heat it on medium flame.

Step 2: After that add tea powder and sugar as per your preference and liking.

Step 3: Now take some cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper and cardamom and crush them into coarse texture and add into the sauce pan where we are heating the tea mixture along with the few slices of ginger and cardamom.  

Step 4: Let the mixture boil for 4-5 minutes on mid flame as it will help all the spices to blend properly with each other and provide the strong taste and aroma.

Step 5: At last, add milk and heat the tea till its froth rises above. And close gas knob immediately.

Step 6: Take the strainer and pour the chai into the cup via strainer and separate the tea powder and other by products of the species and herbs.   

So, this is it. A perfect home-made masala chai ready to be enjoyed with evening snacks or morning breakfast.
